no static at all.

currently listening to: do it again by steely dan
is there a funkier band from the 70s? steely dan is one of those bands that gets looked over in my opinion. sonically, they sound like no one else. with an acid fusion of jazz, r&b and funk they forged their way through the 70s and 80s with classics like reeling in the years and hey nineteen. they are what jam bands model themselves after. enjoy the links! it's perfect summer dancing music.

i am in such a relaxed mood... i just cooked dinner and just now catching up on news stories online. after posting this i will spend my evening reading "america 1900-1999: letters of the century" and listening to steely dan. if this does not sound like an exciting night, i really don't know what is... the previous statement was entirely factual.

this vintage dooney and bourke bag was a steal at $14 dollars. yes $14 dollars! my mother gave my sister this ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL dooney & bourke bag for her college graduation present. it is lust-enducing. since then, i've been on the mad hunt for a vintage one since my mother won't give me any of her private dooney collection. they're PRICELESS.

on a whim and partly because i got lost, i stopped into family thrift and spotted this dreamy bag. i love navy and tan together and it's working well as a neutral bag. its perfect for everyday and can also be dressed up for nightime because of the color.

again, its in the 100s and humid... this "dress" i think is actually a top. sorry i'm not sorry! i'm thoroughly enjoying summer and may be stopping through nola for a brief visit to meet up with some friends for the weekend...

wedge issue.

currently listening to: novacane by frank ocean

this has to be the underground song of the summer. frank ocean has rave reviews as a member of the new super hip hop group odd future wolf gang kill them all as their smooth r&b crooner. this song reminds me of hanging out with friends on an early summer evening.

face: m.a.c. nw47 liner: l'oreal lineur intense in carbon black lashes: colossal volum' express in classic black liner: m.a.c. vino lips: m.a.c. lickable

simple post since the last one was a bit extensive. this was my outfit for running errands today. its too hot for pants. it's too humid for shorts. it looks like a monsoon outside. a dress that barely passes for a "decent" length is my only option.

alma mater.

j. cole has an amazing flow, smooth voice and the ability to become a real hip hop legend. this song is about how he wrestles between wanting to teach his newest girlfriend about the injustices of the world while struggling against his urges. lights please is a quirky and creative way to express the struggle between mind and body.

project one: school spirit
since my career allows for a lot of vacation time during the summer, i've been dedicating a lot of my time to more "creative endeavors" - attempting to tap into my inner martha stewart. even though i'm happy i'm becoming an adult i've got to say publicly that i miss college. i went to a great school with a ton of school spirit. if you follow college football you know that a truly catastrophic event recently happened to my dear ohio state - so therefore, i decided to create a project to remind me how amazing those four years at the ohio state university were for me.

supplies needed:
old sheets
8"x14" canvas
artist's choice brushes
acrylic paint - in school colors.

academy acrylic paint in: cadmium yellow, cadmium red [light], ultramarine blue, windsor&newton in mars black

step one: gather all supplies in a handy location so you're not rushing around when you need them.

step two: lightly sketch a meaningful design representing your hometown or alma mater. since ohio state's logo is rather simple [a block style O] i chose that design along with the last and most important lines of our school song, "carmen ohio" [click!]. this song means so much to me. after every sporting even, before any gathering, ohio state students fill the halls with this song.

step three: draw over your pencil sketch with permanent marker. then paint over the permanent marker.

step four: let dry overnight. and yes, that photo is from 2007 when i met former coach jim tressel.

step five: add details and fill in colors. after overnight drying, i added semi-dry paint to a thin brush and lightly brushed out the "mars black" paint making the block O outline more whimsical. let dry then hang.
